UTILITIES — LATE PAYMENT FEES AND INTEREST
CHARGES
173. Mr D.C. NALDER to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Given that the Premier has
requested that banks and landlords do the right thing to help Western Australians,
will he lead by example and require government entities to suspend electricity
disconnections and restrictions on household water supplies during this crisis?

As I just said, these are the sorts of options that we are
looking at. Of course, we do not want to send a message that people should not
pay their electricity or water bills. We do not want to send that message. But
we also know that a great many people will be doing it tough. Whether or not it
is an extension of financial counselling; easing of restrictions or
disconnections, whether it is water or power; or additional support for small
businesses in the community, all those things are currently being examined.
Obviously, we want to do rational, calm and responsible things, but they are
all under consideration.
