The Minister Replied:
An examination of the associated risk factors for communicable diseases in the Northwest regions suggests that primary level intervention is appropriate.
Examples are the Aboriginal Environmental Health Program, the Sexually Transmitted Disease contact training program and surveillance and intervention programs run by the Northwest public health units.
Hospitals in the Northwest already provide secondary level services for patients with communicable diseases or complications when necessary.
