CITY OF PERTH —
CEO — TERMINATION
824. Mr A. KRSTICEVIC to the Minister for Local Government:
I have a supplementary question.
Given the minister's political grandstanding upon becoming minister,
will he admit that he has failed to fix the problems at Perth city council and
that he is now trying to avoid accountability by refusing to answer questions?

I have made it very clear that
within my powers under the Local Government Act—which we are reforming,
and you did not want to reform, but we are reforming it. You sat there on your
bum and did nothing, and that is what you keep doing. The fact of the matter is
that we are now reforming the Local Government Act, and we are going to put in
place a modern piece of legislation that is very clear and transparent for
those who seek to be elected under it and those who operate it. I made it very
clear: if details regarding termination payments et cetera can be legally
released, I have asked them to release it. Can I direct them? No. Have I asked
them to release it? Yes.
