❓ Hon Tim Clifford asks about the number of public housing tenants who applied for and received air conditioning in the previous financial year, the budget allocated to air conditioning, and the unit cost. The Minister's response indicates that the requested data is not readily available and would require a manual review of case files.

Public housing—Air conditioning
1155. Hon Tim Clifford to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Housing and Works:
I refer to the
answer to my question about air conditioning in public homes, labelled C1231. I
was given some information about procedures, but no numbers; I ask the
following for this reason.
(1) In the previous financial year 2024–25,
how many public housing tenants applied to have air conditioning installed?
(2) How many of those tenants have had their unit
installed?
(3) What is the budget allocated to air conditioning
for public homes?
(4) What is roughly the unit cost for the units
that the department uses?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following is provided on
behalf of the Minister for Housing and Works.
The climate control
policy for public housing is based on Bureau of Meteorology climate zones. The
state government provides cooling in homes through low-cost or no-cost means
for tenants, including ceiling fans, higher ceilings, roof and wall insulation
and appropriate design.
(1)–(2) The data requested is not captured
in this manner. Providing this data would require a manual review of individual
case files and is not considered a reasonable use of government resources.
(3) It is the Housing Authority's broader
maintenance budget.
(4) The department does not apply a standard unit
cost as air conditioners vary significantly in type, size and installation
requirements dependent on house features.
