DARKAN DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL - TRANSPORTABLE BUILDING
I refer to the minister’s letter dated 28 November 2006 notifying the Shire of West Arthur of her decision to remove the transportable building situated at Darkan District High School, which is currently used by the Darkan district playgroup and the Narrogin occasional day care service to provide occasional child care. (1) Does the minister acknowledge that the removal of this building will cause undue distress to local families and possibly the cessation of these vital community services? (2) What is the estimated value of this transportable building; how much will it cost to relocate it; and where will it be relocated? (3) Is the Department of Education and Training prepared to investigate the feasibility of retaining this transportable building on the Darkan District High School site now that the Shire of West Arthur is prepared to purchase it from the department? (4) If not, why not? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

The cost of relocation is approximately $60 000 to $70 000. (3) No. The classroom building is urgently required at Carson Street, and planning is proceeding to complete the relocation for the 2007 school year. (4) Not applicable.
