I am advised that:
Department of the Premier and Cabinet
(a) It is the responsibility of the custodian of the mobile phone and the cost centre manager to report the matter to the service provider. The manager would need to approve the replacement of a mobile phone lost or stolen. Where this has occurred, a necessary step in approving a replacement would be to ensure notification has taken place. Monthly reports are furnished to managers for the purpose of monitoring mobile telephone use and in the event of unauthorised use of the equipment this would soon become apparent.
(b) & (c) No record of the IMEI or serial numbers is kept by the Department as the cost of mobile phones is generally less than $500 and as a result the details are not required on the Department’s Asset Register.
(d) I refer the Member to the answer for parts (e) and (f) to Legislative Assembly Parliamentary Question 2132 which indicates the following information on the cost of replacing lost or stolen mobile phones:
2001 – 01 $1,694
2001 – 02 $1,667
2002 – 03 $2,387
Anti-Corruption Commission
