(a) Funding will be provided early in the 2025-26 financial year, with works to be implemented over three years.
(b) The restoration of the Darlington Wetland has been an ongoing community initiative supported through Rounds 7 and 8 of the WA Government’s Community Rivercare Program. This funding will enable:
(i) ongoing weed control and revegetation with local species;
(ii) improving the drainage and retention of water to support the wetland’s hydrological function;
(iii) erosion control and improved habitat for wetland species;
(iv) improved public access for the community; and
(v) improved understanding of the water quality through regular monitoring.
(c) The project addresses multiple strategies/actions within:
(i) the Shire of Mundaring’s Strategic Community Plan, Local Biodiversity Strategy, Watercourse Hierarchy Strategy and Helena River Catchment Group Action Plan;
(ii) the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council’s Eastern Catchment Management Plan;
(iii) the Swan River Trust’s Draft Swan Canning River Protection Strategy; and
(iv) the Friends of Darlington Wetland’s Darlington Lower Area Management Plan Stage 11, Wetland Rehabilitation Action Plan.
