QuestionView source ↗
(1) Is the Government aware of the Canna range of fertilisers, developed and marketed specifically for the cultivation of high-yield cannabis? (2) Is the Government aware that retail outlets, including major hardware chains in Western Australia, stock Canna brand products? (3) As new section 7A of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981, when proclaimed, will create the indictable offence of selling or supplying or offering to sell or supply anything that is known will be used to cultivate cannabis by hydroponic means, will police take action against these retail outlets; and, if so, what action? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank the member for some notice of this question.. The Minister for Police and Emergency Services has provided the following response - (1) Yes. However, the Police Service advises that it has not been able to establish whether this product is better suited than any other type or brand of fertiliser to the growth of cannabis plants. (2) The Government is not aware of any specific outlets that sell this product. However, there is no prohibition in this State on selling a fertiliser product. Hon Simon O’Brien: You will do absolutely nothing. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: Does the honourable member want me to answer the question, or should I sit down? Hon Simon O’Brien: It is not worth hearing. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: The member asked the question. I am always happy to answer his questions. (3) If evidence exists, the Police Service will initiate a prosecution against any person who has been found to breach sections of the Misuse of Drugs Act or any other relevant Act. Hon Simon O’Brien interjected. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: Hon Simon O’Brien should stop trying to undermine the police.
