SUICIDE ATTEMPTS AND SELF-HARM
64. Hon PETER COLLIER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
(1) What is the total number of juveniles who have
been held at unit 18, Casuarina Prison since being transferred from
Banksia Hill Detention Centre on 20 July 2022?
(2) How many of the juveniles
referred to in (1) have attempted self-harm or suicide over this period?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the
parliamentary secretary representing our excellent Minister for
Corrective Services, I provide the following answer.
(1) Thirty-seven
distinct individuals have been held at unit 18 between 20 July 2022 and 15 February
2023.
(2) Twenty-five
distinct individuals have engaged in self-harm or attempted suicide over this
period. Of 34 separate incidents, 25 involved minor self-harm, two involved
serious self-harm and seven involved attempted suicide.
