I refer to the Atlas Farms Pty Ltd composting farm at location M2034, Calingiri. (1) What is the volume of ground water per annum that has been applied to the composting windows? (2) Are the compost material stockpiles situated above a ground water area; and, if so, what steps have been taken to prevent contamination of the ground water? (3) What monitoring bores, if any, have been placed around the compost stockpiles to determine if ground water contamination is occurring; and, if not, why not? (4) For what contaminants is the compost tested and what is the rate of leaching of heavy metals and other impurities from the compost into the soil and ground water? (5) Does the level of glass contamination in the compost make it unsaleable? Hon TOM STEPHENS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Minister for the Environment and Heritage has provided the following reply - I ask that this question be placed on notice as more time is required for the Department of Environmental Protection to obtain input from the Calingiri facility, and technical information will need to be extracted from the DEP files, which will take some time.
