RESIDENTIAL TENANCIES — RENT BIDDING
1249. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the Minister for Commerce:
I refer to my question without
notice 1166 regarding the government's proposed ban on rent bidding. I thank
the minister for her answer, which indicated that a bill may not be introduced
until early 2024. What remedies or support are available to renters who are
asked by an agent to use a rent bidding application?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
Tenants who are asked to offer more
than the rental price to secure a rental property are encouraged to lodge a complaint
with Consumer Protection. Consumer Protection will examine the conduct and
decide whether further action can be taken under Australian Consumer Law.
