Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson questions the lack of health baseline data collected by the Department of Health prior to the closure of the Oombulgurri Aboriginal community. The parliamentary secretary confirms no such data was collected, citing the community's small population and the cessation of health services prior to closure.

OOMBULGURRI — CLOSURE
166. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the governmentXXX ###XXXs
closure of the Oombulgurri Aboriginal community.
(1) Has the
Department of Health put in any baseline data to ensure that the community
closure will result in improved health outcomes for the families and children
who were living at Oombulgurri prior to closure?
(2) If so, what baseline data has been prepared?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) The
closure of the Oombulgurri Aboriginal community was a
whole-of-government response to a community in crisis. The WA Country Health
Service Kimberley ceased services to Oombulgurri in
August 2011 as fewer than six people were living in Oombulgurri ,
two of whom were agency nursing staff. No health baseline data of the residents
was undertaken at the time of the closure.
(2) Not applicable.
