EDUCATION —
HEDLAND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL — INFRASTRUCTURE
843. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Premier:
Thank you very much, Mr Speaker.
Premier, I refer to a business case prepared by the principal of Hedland Senior
High School which states that it is inevitable there will be a serious injury
to staff and students due to the very poor state of the grounds.
(1) Is the
Premier aware that current infrastructure at the school allows for only half
the 850-strong student population to eat their lunch or undertake exercise in a
shaded area?
(2) Will the
Premier today commit to supporting the principal of Hedland Senior High School's
business case for an urgent upgrade of infrastructure at the school?

(1)–(2) I
am unaware of what the member is referring to. If he had given me some notice
on that, I might have been able to give him a more comprehensive answer. I have
been to Hedland Senior High School a number of times. I do not know exactly
where the member is referring to or what aspect he is referring to. I do know
that when I was education minister 10 years ago, I spent $6 million on
upgrading the facilities at that school. I know that in the period since, money
has been spent on upgrading the facilities at Hedland Senior High School. If
the member would like to provide me with any more detail of what needs to be
done or give any more notice in relation to the question, please do. Otherwise,
I advise the member to refer the question to the Minister for Education and
Training.
