On 1 September 2005 I asked the minister whether there would be an adequate allocation of resources available to district high schools to enable them to cater to the needs of students who will continue their studies in year 11 following the raising of the school leaving age for compulsory schooling. (1) Given that a district high school traditionally does not cater for years 11 and 12 students, will the minister assure the house that all district high schools will be appropriately staffed to meet the demands of increased student numbers and an increased number of syllabus, course and subject choices? (2) Will the minister ensure that there will be an adequate number of classrooms at all district high schools to meet this increase in diversity and need? (3) Vocational education and training - VET - has been integral in the educational programs in many schools for many years. Schools such as Balga Senior High School have specialised in this area. Given that district high schools will provide access to VET for year 11 students for the first time and that many of the schools have limited or no access to TAFE and have limited work placements available to students studying VET, will the minister assure the house that every district high school will be resourced to allow all students the same equity of access to vocational education and training as their metropolitan peers?
