211. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the Minister for Housing's answer to
question without notice 187, asked on 12 March 2014, and to the 86 evictions in
the South East Metropolitan Region.
(1) Was the
Department of Child Protection and Family Support advised whether any children
under 18 years of age were part of the evictions?
(2) If yes to
(1), how many children were involved, and what action has the department taken
to ensure the protection and care of these children?

some notice of this question.
(1) The
Cannington district office received 23 referrals from Housing concerning
strikes under the disruptive behaviour management strategy and/or other
concerns for children in the period 1 March 2013 to 28 February 2014.
(2) A total of
52 children were involved in these referrals. All referrals to the department
involving children are assessed to determine the appropriate action. The
department works closely with the Department of Housing under the disruptive
behaviour management strategy to help families with children address issues
such as antisocial behaviours or parenting skills, in order to prevent
eviction.
