Mr. Johnston questions the Minister for Energy on their commitment to a state-based renewable energy target. The Minister responds by stating the government is considering policy options and focusing on meeting the Commonwealth's renewable energy target, while also highlighting potential consequences for coal facilities if the opposition's renewable energy policy is adopted.

RENEWABLE ENERGY TARGET — COAL-FIRED POWER
STATIONS — PROPOSED CLOSURE
890. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the Minister for
Energy:
I have a supplementary question. Is
the minister committed to a stateQQQ ### QQQbased renewable energy target?

AnswerView source ↗

I will repeat what I said, very
carefully. We are considering our policy options on that now. We are in the
process of implementing the renewable energy target of the commonwealth, which
requires us to have 23.5 per cent renewables by 2020 and then on to 2025; we
will do that. Beyond that, we will enunciate a policy. But the real question
here, and the member for Collie‑Preston needs to address this, is if the
opposition pursues what it announced—a 50 per cent renewable policy—the
coal facilities in Collie will close within 10 years.
