WATER CORPORATION — BOARD MEMBERSHIP
42. Mr D.J. KELLY to the Minister for
Water:
Before I ask my question, I would
like to acknowledge the presence in the gallery of the hardworking members of
the parents and friends association from St Michael's School in
Bassendean. I trust they are enjoying question time.
Further to the question asked
yesterday by the member for Collie–Preston about the resignation of key
persons at the Forest Products Commission —
(1) Can the minister
confirm that three of the six non–executive directors of the Water
Corporation have either resigned or indicated that they do not wish to have
their current terms extended?
(2) What reasons
did each director give for not wanting to continue on the board?

(1)–(2) Three
directors have indicated that they will not continue on the board. Two of them
came to the end of their current terms. The chair of the Water Corporation has
structured renewals so that a third of the board is turned over at a time, to
give continuity in decision-making. The two directors who have decided not to
continue gave a mixture of reasons, including other business opportunities that
had arisen, and balancing the schedule that is expected of a director of the
Water Corporation. One of the members indicated that they would not be
continuing and resigned in advance of the end of their term. That is something
the member can discuss with that director; I am not discussing the individual
and personal context of that discussion, other than that particular member
indicated that he did not wish to continue on the board. As such, we have moved
to replace those directors. Two of those directors had come to the end of their
term. We had set up a structure with the chair, who advised that, from her
experience, it was good to have a turnover that did not require the entire
board being turned over at the same time.
