BAY VILLAGE WORKER CAMP — WOODSIDE ENERGY —
JOINT DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT PANEL DECISION
720. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Will the Premier today
publicly support the City of Karratha's 14 conditions for the Bay
Village camp, including limiting the lease term to 10 years and restricting
access to Woodside employees and contractors?

It is a matter of a legal process,
so it is subject to appeal by either party, as I understand it. My intervening
in a matter that is before the courts is verging on improper. I want to see the
maximising of jobs. I know that the National Party has a hatred of Woodside—a
great Western Australian company. National Party members have a hatred of
Woodside; it oozes out of their pores. I want to make sure that that Browse gas
comes onshore. I think Colin Barnett was wrong in government, and he was wrong
yesterday or today, whenever he said that somehow another gas plant needs to be
built in Port Hedland. We already have numerous gas plants in Western Australia.
Some people will argue there are too many, and there needs to be more
cooperation between the parties to ensure that processing of gas is done in
existing facilities. I do not believe, with facilities that are running down
their production levels and running out of gas, that we should be heading down
the path that Mr Barnett suggested. I am saying backfill North West Shelf,
provide Karratha with a long-term future, and make sure all that investment by
the state into Karratha is backed up by jobs.
