Huntly and Willowdale mine—Reports
1256. Hon Jess Beckerling to the Minister for the
Environment:
I refer to reports
referenced by Alcoa in its Huntly and Willowdale mines Water Resources Management Plan dated 7 February
2025 lodged with the Environmental Protection Authority, including the detailed
site investigation of Huntly mine done by GHD in July 2024, the detailed site
investigation for the Willowdale mine done by GHD in August 2024, the PFAS
inventory report for Huntly mine done by EHS Support in December 2023 and the
PFAS inventory report for the Willowdale mine done by EHS Support in December
2023. Can the minister please table a copy of each of the abovementioned
reports?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The Department of Water and Environmental
Regulation and the Environmental Protection Authority do not have copies of the
reports mentioned. These technical reports relate to historic use of PFAS containing
firefighting foams. These reports will be reviewed by the contaminated sites
auditor accredited under the Contaminated Sites
Act 2003 . The department will review the auditor's report and any
additional information provided by Alcoa to the auditor for the purpose of
managing the sites under the Contaminated Sites
Act 2003 , and will provide technical advice to the EPA to inform its
assessment under part IV of the Environmental
Protection Act 1986 .
