EMERGENCY SERVICES — MT SHEILA BUSHFIRE
1210. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the Minister for Emergency Services:
Without wishing to discombobulate
the Leader of the House any further, I will direct my question to the Minister
for Emergency Services.
I refer the minister to the
bushfire incident in recent days close by in Mt Sheila. I thank all concerned
for their service in the protection of the community.
(1) How many firefighters were
deployed to tackle the blaze?
(2) What portion of those deployed
were career firefighters and what portion were volunteers?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) There were 83 firefighting
personnel in attendance over the 10-day duration of the incident.
(2) In attendance over the 10-day duration of the
incident were 16 Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel, 67
DFES volunteers and 55 personnel from the FMG and Rio Tinto emergency response
teams, and 37 machine operators from FMG and Rio Tinto were also utilised
during the incident.
