thank the member for the question. I think it might be your first, member for
Carine, so congratulations, and welcome to this place. I must say I have
received a few questions from the member for Carine over the years, and that is
the best yet!

for Carine, I am very pleased to provide an update to the house with respect to
the WA vaccination program for COVID-19. It is an incredibly important
program, because we are not safe until we are all safe. We cannot travel until
we get deep penetration of the vaccine, not only in Western Australia and
Australia, but across the world. Western Australians have an important
obligation and responsibility to themselves, to their families, and to the
community, to make sure that when they have the opportunity, they get
themselves vaccinated. I am very proud that over 361 000 people have now received
at least one dose of the vaccine. That is an incredibly important number. It
represents the largest proportion of the adult population of any mainland state
in the country. That is a great credit to not only the health system but also
the WA community.
I am very pleased that today I can
provide further detail on how every Western Australian can participate in the
fight against COVID-19. From today, we have launched a new COVID-19 vaccination
booking system called VaccinateWA. This will be a vital tool to help eligible Western
Australians access their COVID-19 vaccine. The VaccinateWA booking system can
be accessed via the Roll Up for WA website and provides an online process for
booking and confirming vaccination appointments at community and hospital-based
vaccination clinics around the state. We want more people to be vaccinated.
That is why it is important that we utilise
every opportunity we have to get to these important groups in our community.
We
also have announced the launch of an online system that coincides with a new
cohort of 300 000 eligible Western Australians, including younger adults
with specific underlying medical conditions, and people with disability, as
part of the phase 1B cohort. Given that we have additional stocks available to
WA, our immediate focus is to make sure that we target this particularly
vulnerable group of Western Australians. To assist with our selected clinics,
we will start to utilise the Claremont Showground clinic in early June to provide the Pfizer vaccine from that clinic as
well. This will help ensure that the 1B cohort is covered as quickly as possible. Vaccination appointments can
also be made at either a participating general practitioner or any of
the GP respiratory clinics.
Everyone, take the opportunity to get
yourself vaccinated. It is such an important part of the process. We have seen
today some more cases in relation to the Victorian situation. This should
provide everyone with a reminder that we need to make sure that we get every
person whom we can vaccinated as quickly as possible. That makes our community
more resilient to risks from overseas. It makes our community more resilient to risks associated with any outbreak.
So, please, see your participating GP, or go to a GP respiratory clinic. We have our mass clinics at Redcliffe,
Joondalup and Kwinana, and of course Claremont Showgrounds . There is
plenty of opportunity to get yourself vaccinated. There is no excuse not to, if
you are in one of the eligible categories. I urge everyone to do so. Thank you.
