Hemp—Innovations
169. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the Minister for Science and Innovation:
Noting that we have
somehow managed to get around to St Patrick's Day again, I refer the minister
to recent publicity around the many innovative uses to which hemp is being put
and the part it is increasingly playing in the creation of a green
environmental future for the Emerald Isle.
(1) What opportunities are currently
available to hemp companies in Western Australia within the minister's own
portfolio of innovation, and how can they be accessed?
(2) What role, if any, will the
innovation portfolio play in the long-promised hemp review being overseen by
the Minister for Agriculture and Food?
(3) Will the minister liaise with all his
cabinet colleagues to ensure that the innovative economic benefits of hemp are
recognised and taken advantage of, as his countrymen are wont to say, before
the devil knows we are dead?

supply chains.
(2) This question needs to be referred to
the hardworking Minister for Agriculture and Food.
Several members
interjected.
Hon Jackie Jarvis: It does now!
(3) As the Minister for Science and
Innovation, I will advocate for all industries within this sector to my cabinet
colleagues.
The President: Your answer is your answer, minister!
