I thank the member for Belmont for this question and for her
continued interest in policing in Western Australia. I am really delighted to
inform the house that the asset investment program commitment of this
government to Western Australia Police amounts to $73.3 million in the 2015–16
budget. Members will be pleased to note that this is consistent with us
achieving a number of election commitments that were put to the community in
2013, including $21 million towards the completion of the Cockburn Police
Station. The member for Jandakot has been strongly advocating for that project.
A total of $10.7 million has been allocated in the 2015–16 financial
year. For the information of members, the existing station can accommodate only
up to 27 personnel. We have bigger plans for the Cockburn centre under the
Frontline 2020 policing model. That new police station will have a district
management team, a response team, a local policing team, a dedicated operations
room and some short-term custodial facilities, which will be of great
assistance to police down in the South Metropolitan Region. We have acquired
the land for that project and we anticipate completion in late 2016.
We have allocated $11 million for construction of the
Ballajura Police Station, along with $3.6 million allocated for 2015–16.
Once again, land has been acquired. This is an achievement of a very important
election commitment of the Liberal–National government. We anticipate
completion in 2016.
We will also see the construction of an $8 million police
station for Mundijong. The member for Darling Range is most excited about this
project. A total of $3.9 million is allocated in 2015–16. Once again,
we anticipate completion in 2016. I am looking forward to opening all these
police stations.
In addition, we have allocated $25.4 million for a new
computer-aided dispatch system. For those members who may not be aware, this is
an integral part of policing in Western Australia. This system receives and
records the calls for assistance from the community. It is involved in
coordinating and managing the response and where we dispatch our police
officers in response to emergency situations and incidents involving criminal
activity, road crashes et cetera. We have allocated $9.3 million to that
project in 2015–16. This is an integral project of policing in Western
Australia. Our police officers are very excited to see that this government has
committed $25.4 million for the replacement of that system. We have also
allocated $600 000 in 2015–16 to replenish our speed camera stock,
which will add another seven years to the life of our speed camera fleet. So,
$73.3 million is reinvested into policing in Western Australia to ensure that
we have the best police service and we can prove to the community that we
deliver on our election commitments; and, not only that, that we stand 100 per cent
behind our police officers and the amazing work that they do in our
communities.
