JAKARTA
TRADE OFFICE
1124. Hon RICK MAZZA to the
Leader of the House representing the Premier:
Minister, the media has recently
reported that Western Australia's trade office in Jakarta, Indonesia,
is to be closed. If this is the case —
(a) when will the office be closed;
(b) will the trade commissioner's
contract be terminated; and
(c) what
alternative arrangements are being considered to represent Western Australia's
significant interests in trade with Indonesia?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(a)–(c)
The current regional director's contract term expires on 31 December
2014. The future of our representation in Indonesia is being examined. One
option is for an embedded full-time Western Australian trade officer to be
located in the Austrade office in the Australian embassy in Jakarta.
