(1) A new $138 million facility in South Hedland is currently under construction and is due for completion in September 2010. This new hospital has been designed for easy expansion and will be capable of responding to the expected growth in the Pilbara to at least 2016/17. This investment is in line with the blueprint for health that is set out in the recently released Western Australian Clinical Services Framework 2010-2020 (CSF 2010), developed to guide future health services planning in the State.
CSF 2010 projects the expected demand for health services from the growing population incorporating additional population growth in the Pilbara, beyond that projected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2008. It also takes into consideration other factors such as the future development of the Karratha Health campus.
