Given that visitors from Malaysia dropped by over 30% at the end of 2006 following the closure of the trade office in Kuala Lumpur, I ask -
(1) Will the Minister re-open the trade marketing office in Malaysia?
(2) If not, why not?

(2) The drop in visitors is 24%, not 30% as stated. Tourism Western Australia (Tourism WA), like many other State Tourism Organisations will continue to service the Malaysian travel industry from its Singapore Marketing office. Even when Tourism WA had an office based in Malaysia it was always a volatile market. The decline in visitors from Malaysia is not only limited to Western Australia but is an Australia wide phenomenon, with four other States/Territories experiencing a decline in numbers, mainly due to the increased presence of low cost airlines in the region.
