Will the Minister release funding to the WA Channel Management Group to design and construct a demonstration scheme to combat salinity that integrates arterial drains, surface water management and revegetation, as shown to the WA Commissioner for Soil Conservation?

The WA Channel Management Group have submitted an expression of interest to the call for projects from the Engineering Evaluation Initiative. $2 million dollars is available in this call and 61 expressions of interests have been submitted. The projects received came from all over southern Western Australia - from Morawa to east of Esperance. The decision on the successful projects is likely to be made by September 2003. I am not able to preempt any announcement that will be made as part of this engineering salinity management initiative.
