1. The following registered group training organisations currently receive funding for one or more of the following programs from the Department of Education and Training: Joint Group Training Program (JGTP), Aboriginal School Based Traineeship Program and Hospitality Passport Training Program.
1. AFL Sports Ready Limited.
2. Apprenticeships Western Australia.
3. Directions.
4. Electrical Group Training Ltd.
5. Great Southern Group Training Inc.
6. The Apprenticeship and Traineeship Company - South West.
7. Health Training Australia (Inc).
8. Hospitality Group Training WA Inc.
9. Housing Industry Association Apprentices Ltd.
10. Kimberley Group Training Inc.
11. The Apprenticeship and Traineeship Company - Midwest.
12. Motor Industry Training Association of WA Inc.
13. MPA Skills.
14. Skill Hire Pty Ltd.
15. SMYL Community Services.
16. The West Australian Group Training Scheme Inc.
17. Workplace Employment & Training Services Inc.
2. As at January 2008, the Department of Education and Training's Training Record System (TRS) currently reports 4 878 apprentices in training with the above registered group training organisations. TRS also reports 1 171 trainees are currently in training with group training organisations.
3. Group training organisations are funded annually in accordance with the Joint Group Training Program targeted priorities through the Department of Education and Training. This funding is paid in two instalments.
Funding for the Aboriginal School Based Traineeship Program is paid progressively based on milestones achieved by the trainees.
Funding for the Hospitality Passport Training Program is scheduled over three instalments.
4. The growth in apprenticeships is being facilitated through the following:
·Trade reforms have been implemented to encourage more young people into apprenticeships.
·The "Fast Track" program recognises the existing skills of experienced workers and allows them to complete apprenticeships in a shorter time frame.
· Funding for the provision of training has been increased to meet the increased demand.
· Funding for TAFE infrastructure has been increased.
·Introduction of the School Apprenticeship Link program and school based apprenticeships provide students with the opportunity to start trade training whilst at school.
· Apprenticeships are now more flexible with part time apprenticeships being available in most trades.
· Increase in ApprentiCentre staff to service and support employers and apprentices.
·Introduction of competency based completion to allow apprentices to be issued with Trade Certificate when assessed both by the employer and the training provider as competent in the trade.
5. Skill Hire is registered as a group training organisation in Western Australia.
