PERTH
AIRPORT — QANTAS TERMINALS
910. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the attempts by Qantas to combine its
international and domestic terminals at the current Qantas domestic terminal
site.
(1) Does the state government support the moves by Qantas to
have this combined facility?
(2) What
negotiations or discussions has the minister had with the federal government
about the Qantas proposal?
(3) What
assurances or commitments did the state government receive regarding the
location of terminals when it committed to the Forrestfield–Airport
Link project and the location of the stations?

I thank the member for West Swan for the question.
(1)–(3) I met with the new
general manager of Perth Airport last week and he outlined his plan for Western
Australia's airports, which was for Qantas to move over to T1. There is
an issue, because it will take some time to develop. Qantas has a preference to
stay where it is, I think it is at T3, but the issue is being resolved. There
is a reason Qantas wants to remain temporarily where it is—I think it
prefers to remain where it is. Regarding the overall development of the
airport, we have to remember that Western Australia's airport is on
commonwealth land and comes under commonwealth control. The issue for Western
Australia's airport, I think, is the efficiency of the airport. Its
position is that Qantas should eventually move to the main terminal.
