LIVE EXPORT — FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POLICY —
MINISTERIAL REPRESENTATIONS
651. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
I refer to reports that the Premier's
Minister for Agriculture and Food is meeting with the federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon Julie
Collins, today—almost two months after she was appointed to the role.
(1) Why has it taken so long for
the Premier's agriculture minister to get a meeting with the federal
minister?
(2) Has the
minister requested to meet with the federal minister and been ignored or do we
assume that the federal minister has been too scared to front up and
acknowledge the devastation caused by Labor's disgraceful decision to
end the live sheep trade?

(1)–(2) The
member should not assume anything. Let us be clear. The Minister for
Agriculture and Food is a tireless campaigner for the agricultural industry and
ensuring that it continues to be an important part of our economy. Obviously,
she has had a number of opportunities to engage with the agriculture minister
by phone and email and through other means of communication. I am obviously
pleased that she has had the opportunity to meet with her face to face. In that
meeting, she will continue her great advocacy in relation to assisting farmers
to transition away from live sheep exporting and continue to make sure that we
advocate for an increase in the transition package that has been offered by the
federal government.
