248. Hon JIM CHOWN to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
(1) How many
applications have been made for an individual patient to be prescribed medical
cannabis in Western Australia in —
(a) 2017;
(b) 2018; and
(c) 2019?
(2) Of the applications in (1), how
many were approved?
(3) How many Department of Health–approved
cannabis prescribers with a cannabis-based product prescription number
are there currently in Western Australia?
(4) How many
Therapeutic Goods Administration–authorised prescribers are there
currently in Western Australia?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) It was —
(a) 27;
(b) 288; and
(c) 153 to 21 March 2019.
(2) In 2017, 21
were approved and three were withdrawn; in 2018, 261 were approved, five were
withdrawn and 22 are pending; and in 2019, 133 were approved, four were
withdrawn and 16 are pending to 21 March 2019. The totals are: 415 were
approved, 12 were withdrawn and 38 are pending.
(3) It is three.
(4) The
Therapeutic Goods Administration does not provide the Department of Health with
specific information on the number of authorised prescribers in Western Australia.
