the minister representing the Minister for Local Government:
(1) How much will local council amalgamations cost?
(2) How much has been spent to date on council amalgamations?
(3) How much has been budgeted in the 2013–14 budget
for council amalgamations?
(4) How much has been allocated over the forward estimates
for council amalgamations?
(5) Can the
minister give an assurance that councils will not be forced to fund their own
council amalgamations?

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1) The cost
of the metropolitan amalgamations is dependent upon the model that is
recommended by the Local Government Advisory Board and approved by the
minister.
(2) For
metropolitan local government reform: 2011–12, $500 000; 2012–13,
$650 000; and 2013–14, $3.320 million.
(3) The amount is $3.320 million.
(4)–(5) This is subject to the budget process.
