recently announced handheld Tru Narc machine, and ask: (a) when will the Tru Narc units be introduced into operational service; (b) how many units will be purchased; (c) what is the approximate cost of each unit; (d) who is the manufacturer of the device; (e) are these devices currently in use in other jurisdictions in Australia; and (f) what is the estimated lifespan of a Tru Narc machine?

The Western Australian Police Force advised the following:
(a)     The Tru Narc units are already in operation.
(b)     29.
(c)     $36,000 plus GST.
(d)     Thermo Fisher Scientific.
(e)     Yes.
(f)      Between five and six years, software updates occur every three to six months.
