I refer to the Rottnest Island Golf Course and I ask: (a) how much water was used to water the Rottnest Island Golf Course from 1 December 2013 to 1 March 2014; (b) what proportion of the Island’s total water consumption during this period does this represent; (c) what is the estimated cost per day to produce and irrigate the Golf Course during this period; and (d) is the private Golf Course operator being charged for this cost of water, and if not, what are the reasons for the costs not being passed onto the operator?

(a) 23.87 megalitres.
(b) 40.3 per cent.
(c) $1 049. Following the commissioning of the new waste water treatment plant in late 2016, this will reduce to approximately $160 per day in summer and will be free during winter. Currently, the cost to irrigate the golf course during winter is less than $100 per day.
(d) Yes. The Rottnest Island Golf Course operator receives a daily allocation of water as part of the overall negotiated lease agreement.
