(1) What is the proposed maintenance schedule for the Waroona Dam for the financial years 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03? (2) Have there been media reports of a potential scarcity of water for dairy farmers who rely on the dam for irrigation purposes? If so, are those reports accurate? I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) (a) In 2000-01 daily safety inspections of the dam were carried out. No incidents were reported during this period. Dam reservoir levels were maintained to address safety concerns and meet irrigation commitments. (b) In 2001-02 daily safety inspections of the dam are being carried out. To date no incidents have been reported. The dam reservoir level is around three metres lower than in 2000-01 following the dropping of the level in May 2001 for investigation work. The lower than average winter rains have not allowed the reservoir to fill to the levels achieved in 2000-01. (c) In 2002-03 daily safety inspections of the dam will be carried out with any incidents reported immediately. Dam reservoir levels will be maintained to address safety concerns and meet irrigation commitments. Construction of the dam remedial works will commence in late 2002; however, this commencement date is dependent on formal approvals being obtained and the competing requirements of other Water Corporation capital works. (2) Yes. These reports are not accurate. It is planned to supply up to 90 per cent of normal irrigation demand through the careful management of the three dams that supply the Waroona area - namely, Samson Dam, Drakesbrook Dam and Waroona Dam. (3) $900 000.
