I refer to the 25 women prisoners transferred from Bandyup Women’s Prison to Greenough Regional Prison. (1) How many of these women were Aborigines? (2) How many were minimum-security prisoners? (4) Nyandi Women’s Prison is the minimum-security prison for women in Western Australia, and has operated as such since December 1998. There are plans to expand Nyandi to include the disused Longmore site. The new prison will be designed to fulfil the needs of low-security women. Practical completion of new works is scheduled for March 2004. It is anticipated that it will accommodate up to 150 women when completed.
