(1) This is a matter for the Minister for Housing.
(2) I am pleased to advise there are a range of other initiatives through the Homelessness National Partnership Agreement for the Pilbara region. The initiatives for the Pilbara are framed around intervening early to prevent homelessness and breaking the cycle to ensure people do not remain homeless. These include support for people in public tenancy, a housing support worker for people with drug and alcohol issues, a domestic violence outreach service to keep women and children safe at home and a specialist homelessness worker.
The Department for Child Protection is currently undertaking a series of regional presentations and these are scheduled for Port Hedland on 26 August and Karratha on 27 August 2009.  Further consultation will also be undertaken to refine the service models.
