WESTERN ROCK LOBSTER
INDUSTRY — REFORMS — GREG POLAND
152. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Minister for Fisheries:
I have a supplementary question. Was
the minister aware that Mr Poland would personally benefit from his crayfish
policy, and that he was a substantial donor to the Liberal Party, and is that
the real reason why the minister pursued his nationalisation plan?
Several members interjected.
Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP : To the
Labor Party, sorry—a substantial donor to the Labor Party. My
apologies.

Member for Dawesville, the first
time I became aware of Mr Poland was when he was funding the campaign of the former member for Morley, Ian Britza, at the
last election. I understand he took out full-page ads in the Eastern Reporter in support of Ian Britza. That was my first awareness of Mr Poland. I understand
he makes donations to a range of political parties. We made it very clear that
we wanted to see more local lobster in the Western Australian market, to create
jobs in the hospitality sector. We made that perfectly clear. So all those
restaurateurs who have contacted us and said they would love to have lobster on
the market have an interest, as does every other member of the Western Australian
community, who are supportive of our attempts to create jobs.
The SPEAKER : That is the end
of question time.
