I refer to the Greenough Regional Prison riot and the subsequent escape, and ask: (a) At what date/time was the Director General first made aware of this incident: (i) What form did this notification take (i.e. by telephone, email) and who by; and (b) On what dates/times has the Director General received face-to-face briefings on this incident (including recovery, if applicable): (i) Where did these briefings take place and who was present at the briefings (job titles only)?

The Department of Justice advises:
(a)
(i) The Director General who was overseas on leave was alerted by SMS at 1716hrs on 24 July 2018. This was followed by a verbal briefing with the Acting Director General commencing 1718hrs on 24 July 2018.
(b) The Director General called both the Acting Director General and Acting Commissioner Corrective Services upon arrival back in Perth at approximately 0100hrs, 25 July. Following further updates during the night, he returned from leave and was briefed by the Acting Director General, Acting Commissioner Corrective Services at approximately 0800hrs on 25 July 2018 at the David Malcolm Justice Centre.
(i) The Director General received additional briefings from the Acting Director General and other senior executives in Perth over the course of the rest of the week, and on site at Greenough Prison on Friday 27 July.
