NATIONAL
PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT ON LEGAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES
1237. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the
Attorney General:
I refer to clause B7 of the National Partnership Agreement on
Legal Assistance Services, which outlines the position of every signatory to
the agreement, and reads —
Commonwealth funding should not be
used to lobby governments or to engage in public campaigns. Lobbying does not include community legal education or where a legal assistance service provider
makes a submission to a government or parliamentary body to provide factual
information and/or advice with a focus on systemic issues affecting access to
justice.
Is this the state's position?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
As the member is aware, the state is a signatory to the
National Partnership Agreement on Legal Assistance Services, and therefore did
not object to the inclusion of the clause referred to by the member.
