CONFISCATION ACT — GRANTS
1290. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to reference made to the
confiscation proceeds account on page 16 of the Office of the Director of
Public Prosecutions' annual report.
(1) How many funds were distributed
during the reporting period and to whom were they distributed?
(2) What is the current balance of
the account?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the
Attorney General.
(1) In 2022–23,
total funds distributed were $16 283 045.80 to the following: the Office of the
Director of Public Prosecutions, $6 million; Western Australia Police Force, $6
million; state grants to Legal Aid for support
to community legal centres, $3 million; and Crime Stoppers WA, $300 000. The
criminal property confiscation grants
program received $983 045.80 to distribute to the following: Gosnells Community
Legal Centre, $107 824.80; the Shire
of Carnarvon, $110 000; Wadjak Northside Aboriginal Community Centre ,
$180 587; Ruah Community Services, $194 312; the City of Swan, $200 000; and
Parkerville Children and Youth Care, $190 322.
(2) As at 30 September 2023, the
current balance in the account is $53.6 million.
