I refer to the fact that it is now more than 12 months since the Minister for Energy selected Energy Equity Corporation-Woodside Energy as the preferred tenderer for the west Kimberley power supply. In view of the lengthy delay in reaching a draft agreement, will the minister - (a) provide an update on the status of negotiations; (b) confirm that the minister is satisfied with the current financial standing of Energy Equity Corporation Ltd; (c) confirm whether the recent fall in the Australian dollar has adversely affected the Energy Equity-Woodside bid; and (d) confirm whether the recent world price increases in liquefied natural gas have adversely affected the Energy Equity-Woodside bid? Hon N.F. MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (a) Negotiations are nearing conclusion. (b) The minister is satisfied that all necessary requirements to assure financial soundness of any bidder must be met prior to entering into an agreement for the supply of electricity to Western Power. (c) Fluctuations in the exchange rate affect all large projects that require capital equipment from overseas. The impact that this will have on the Energy Equity-Woodside bid will not be known until closer to the signing of the agreement. However, it is not expected to be significant. (d) The LNG price is not affected by the increase in the world oil price.
