2: The Feral Goat Eradication Program was commenced in 1991 following a request by industry for the then government to co-ordinate a program. Initially funds were allocated to infrastructure improvement including mobile yards and trap yards before the program implemented aerial shooting from helicopters in 1992/93. In response to recommendations of a Ministerial review (chaired by the Hon Murray Criddle) and a survey of the pastoral industry, it was decided by the Agriculture Protection Board that the aerial shooting program would be ceased. Between 1992/93 and 1998/99 over $2,762,900 ($2,025,500 APB funds; $737,400 industry funds) was expended on the program. In light of this decision, the APB reallocated funds to the widespread aerial survey of feral goat populations from 1999/2000. The industry also decided to reallocate its funds to higher priority control programs such as wild dogs. In early 2002 the APB decided to cease the aerial survey program as the surveys were having limited impact on increased feral goat removal and industry's view that it was a waste of money. During the period 1999/2000 to 2000/02 a total of $744,000 was expended through APB funds on aerial surveys.
