Can the minister provide the Parliament with the following information - (1) The total amount of money given to women’s refuges in the past year, from 1 July 2004 to 1 July 2005? (2) The number of beds currently available for women and children in Western Australia in refuges on any given night? (3) The amount of money spent by the Department for Community Development on accommodating women and children in places other than refuges; that is, motels, hotels, caravan parks and any other crisis accommodation? On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Community Development I have been supplied with the following answer - (1) The total funding allocated to women’s refuges from 1 July 2004 to 30 June 2005 was $12.9 million. (2) The number of crisis beds currently available for women in Western Australia in refuges on any given night is 248. Of these, 190 are available with additional beds for women who attend with children. (3) In 2004-05, $64 342 was spent on accommodation where the matter was linked to domestic violence. (4) It is anticipated this information will be released in December 2005. (5) The supported accommodation assistance program national data collection provides information regarding the number of accompanying children assisted through SAAP and where they have more than one support period. Steps are taken by the National Data Collection Agency to ensure individual clients are not identified from the data collection. This information is not used to identify children at the individual client level.
