DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE —
RECOMMENDATIONS — TRACKING
1046. Hon JIM CHOWN to the minister representing the Minister
for Corrective Services:
I refer to the Corruption and Crime
Commission report titled ''Report into misconduct risks in WA prisons''
dated 26 October 2018.
(1) Does the
Department of Justice keep an electronic record, catalogue or tracking document
to audit or manage the department's response to and progress in
implementing recommendations by bodies such as the Corruption and Crime
Commission, the Office of the Auditor General, the Office of the Inspector of
Custodial Services and the Coroner's Court; and, if not, why not?
(2) If yes to
(1), will the minister table the records, catalogues, tracking documents or
excerpts that provide details of the status of each recommendation; and, if
not, why not?
(3) If yes to
(1), how many recommendations are there in total; how many have not been
completed or are open; and how many are there with status unknown, broken down
by each body making the recommendations?
(4) If yes to
(1), what percentage of these recommendations are past the due date for
completion?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes.
(2)–(4) The
department's electronic system for tracking recommendations is
currently tracking 661 recommendations and it is not configured to provide a breakdown
of the data requested within the available time frame. In addition, certain
recommendations relate to sensitive security-related information that requires
thorough assessment prior to a decision regarding public release of that
information.
I ask that the
member place the question on notice and I will make sure that he gets an
answer.
