NORTH METROPOLITAN
HEALTH SERVICE BOARD — BUDGET MANAGEMENT
788. Dr M.D. NAHAN to the Minister for Health:
I have a supplementary question.
Will the minister confirm that, in total, the health service last year spent
$436 million more than the total cost of service target he set for it and that
his pretence for sacking the North Metropolitan Health Service board, including
some of the eminent people on it, was just to parachute Jim McGinty in, and
that he has been exposed?

I note that later on this afternoon
the opposition will move a motion noting that we have cut the budgets. The
premise of the Leader of the Opposition's question now is that we have
blown out the budget. I cannot help the Leader of the Opposition in his
somewhat deluded and schizophrenic state, but I will endeavour to elucidate and
inform him.
Dr M.D. Nahan interjected.
The SPEAKER : Leader of the
Opposition!
Mr R.H. COOK : Last week, we
saw in private members' business and in successive questions in
Parliament the total confusion on the other side with regard to how we fix a health
system. Given their track record, it is not surprising that they failed so
miserably in government.
