KIMBERLEY EXPANSION PROJECT — STAGE 2 IRRIGATION PIPES
712. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Minister for
Lands:
I refer to my question on notice
concerning the Ord stage 2 irrigation pipe repair program and the minister's
response yesterday that LandCorp and Leighton Contractors had reached agreement
on terms to conclude contractual matters on 12 September 2014. What is the
exact cost to taxpayers for the pipes' rectification or replacement?

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question. As he
would be aware, Leighton Contractors was the contractor for this significant
project. Funds have been held back to support any rectification of issues that
occur prior to handover of those facilities. One of the issues that came to the
fore was around some of the pipes not being to a satisfactory standard. There
followed some formal negotiations, if you like, in respect of the contractual
arrangements between Leighton and LandCorp, and it is my understanding that
LandCorp has taken over responsibility for that and that there will be, from
memory—I will confirm this—no cost to the taxpayer additional
to the project —
Mr
M. McGowan : Why is LandCorp taking over?
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : There were some contractual arrangements in place between
Leighton and LandCorp that have reached resolution, and I think my earlier
answer to the question summarised some of that. It is my understanding—I
will confirm this—that there is no additional cost to the taxpayer for
the issues around the pipes not being up to standard.
