Schools—Transportable classrooms
505. Hon Julie Freeman to
the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Education:
I refer to question
without notice 472 regarding transportable classrooms, where the minister
advised that currently 68 schools have applied for transportable classrooms for
2027, but only 25 classrooms are currently awaiting allocation.
(1) Does the minister expect demand for
transportable classrooms in 2027 to exceed available supply?
(2) How many of the 68 applications are
expected to be unsuccessful due to a lack of available classrooms?
(3) What measures are being taken to
increase the stock of transportable classrooms to meet demand?
(4) Will additional transportable
classrooms be procured for the 2027 school year and, if so, how many?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided on behalf of the Minister for Education.
(1) The construction and installation of
transportable structures is an ongoing program. Schools can apply for a
transportable until the end of each year for the following school year, which
is assessed by the department.
(2) None.
(3)–(4) In addition to structures complete and
installed, there are currently 25 transportables completed and awaiting
allocation. Funding is allocated in the 2026–27 budget to continue this program
of works.
