I refer to the backbench unrest in the Liberal Party over the refusal of the Minister for Fair Trading to accept responsibility for the finance broking scandal and his refusal to resign. (1) Does the Premier agree with the member for Geraldton, who told journalists this morning that the minister should have gone two months ago? (2) Is the member for Geraldton correct when he says there are a dozen Liberal backbenchers calling for the minister’s scalp? (3) Is the Premier aware that Hon Derrick Tomlinson has today joined calls for the minister to resign? (4) Is it not the case that the minister does not enjoy the support of his colleagues anymore, and that he survives only because the Premier refuses to sack him? Mr COURT

(1)-(4) I was asked similar questions by the media today. I do not respond or give credibility to rumours. I am not aware of the so-called 12 people, and I will not give credibility to those rumours. I fully support the Minister for Fair Trading and all ministers in carrying out their responsibilities.
