· in 2000/01 there were 61, 957 reported burglaries · in 2001/02 there were 61,182 reported burglaries · in 2002/03 there were 60,777 reported burglaries. Furthermore the 2003-04 year to date statistics indicate a 12.6% decrease in reported burglaries compared with the corresponding period in 2002-03. 2. In responding to this question, the Police Service has understood that ‘’the end of 2002’’ refers to 2003 calendar year (31 December). The Police Service advise that of the reported burglaries in 2002/03, there were 5,079 burglaries where one or more persons were processed. In addition, there were 2,903 cleared by other actions including statute barred, insufficient evidence, complaint withdrawn, false or mistaken report, civil action or other clearance method. 3. The Police Service advise there were 3,420 distinct persons processed by court proceedings (arrested/summonsed) and 1,523 distinct persons subject to other actions (such as caution or referred to Juvenile Justice Team). 4. The actions taken against the persons processed were: Actions Processing Actions Distinct Persons Arrested 5,304 3,053 Summonsed 597 483 Cautioned 899 762 Juvenile Justice Teams 719 543 Other 328 280 Total 7,847
